Sarah Catherine Forsythe

A little bit about me…

I’m Sarah Catherine. One word that sums me up is CURIOUS. I learned early on that I have a passion for the process of making something and problem solving.

As a child I played with my older brother’s wooden block set. I decided it can do more than build structures. I took two blocks, found material, wood glue, and nails and made my own clog shoes. I know what you're thinking….” not very comfortable” but I was so proud to wear them. I was also found wandering in my neighbors’ yards picking flowers. I made beautiful bouquets and then proceeded to go door to door and sell them. Needless to say that was not my best idea especially after a neighbor called my mom. I decided to start making my own crafts to sell at Holiday bazaars. I made stationary, friendship barrettes and pins, chocolates from candy molds, beaded jewelry, ornaments and more. Anybody else do the same as a kid? I loved a good bazaar. Well, at age 11 the spark was ignited and a lifelong love of making beautiful pieces was evolving.

My sophomore year I took my first jewelry making class and I was hooked. Making something from nothing was exhilarating. The development of making a piece of adornment from metals was like a puzzle. I found myself creating jewelry that was out of the ordinary. My first piece of jewelry spelled out the word ‘Different’ in an abstract, textural design. I wore this pendant all the time. Wearing it made me feel confident, brave, unique, and beautiful. I I didn’t need to proclaim who I was, my jewelry did the talking for me. I discovered my “why” for making jewelry. Jewelry making is a journey for me. Jewelry can be about so much more than an accessory. It is a tool of self-expression, strength, and confidence.

I visited the Art Institute of Chicago often and I came across this beautiful work of art created by Chunghi Coo titled, Decanter. A work made of silverplated copper. I was so curious. Was it one piece of metal? Were there rivets? Where are the seams? How was it polished? It was a marvel and I had to know the process. I researched her and learned that she was a professor at The University of Iowa. My exploration continued and I chose to study Jewelry and Metal Arts at the University of Iowa. Chunghi Choo was an inspiration to all. She taught me to embrace your power with confidence. When you live in your magic, the world opens in ways you never thought possible.

It is my desire to make unique jewelry that can stand out in a crowd, stop people in their tracks, and say your jewelry “is so me”. A conversation starter.

And so it continues…I started my jewelry business, SARAH CATHERINE FORSYTHE JEWELRY because I’m a lover of process, curious, have desire to connect with others, and to make jewelry that becomes a conversation piece. A jewelry line where I Invest in others and their shared experiences. I create a work of art that is unique to the wearer. Many of my pieces are sculptural that you can wear everyday. I pour my heart and soul into each creation, ensuring that each detail tells a story and makes one ‘feel’.

Jewelry has the power to enhance your mood, boost your confidence, and showcase your individuality to the world. I’d love to help you find that next piece that makes you feel YOU.
